James Conroy is a widely published poet and author of eight previous novels, with a nomination for the National Book Award.  A regular contributor to national and international literary journals, he is often asked for editorial input and to judge contests.  After finishing Bittern Island while living in Newport, Rhode Island, he currently resides with his wife, Helen, in Chicago where he continues to write, edit, and tutor English, poetry, and creative writing.
